Belzec, located in eastern Poland, was one of the six Nazi death camps. Between February 1942 and December 1942, Jews from Poland, Germany, Slovakia, and Romania were transported to Belzec. There they were herded into gas chambers disguised as bath houses and murdered with carbon monoxide gas. In less than one year of operations, about 600,000 Jews and a few thousand Gypsies were killed at Belzec and buried in the camp's mass graves. Only five people are known to have survived Belzec.
